Jacobo “Jake” Tum serves on the board of Asociación Mission Firefly (AMF) Guatemala and as Project Manager for AMF since 2012. As an indigenous Mayan, Jake experienced similar conditions in a northern Guatemalan village during his childhood. Forced by food scarcity to leave his home at a young age, he joined the Guatemalan army. Following his military service Jake worked as a project manager for Feed the Children for 18 years. Darwin Mayen

In addition to serving as a translator for mission teams in 2026, Darwin Mayer is serving as part time Asistente Técnico de Proyectos (Technical Project Assistant) under the direction of Jacobo Tum. Under Jake’s direction, Darwin is learning all aspects of our ministry and will be assisting our team on all village projects, programs, and mission trips in 2026.

In Darwin’s words: “Through my wife’s influence, I began translating for missionary groups in 2019. After a break during the pandemic, I resumed this work in 2023. Serving as a translator for groups that come to bless my fellow citizens has been a deeply satisfying, uplifting, and blessed experience and working with Awakening Hope has been a very pleasant experience. Being part of all the help and seeing the good heart of the mission teams fills my  heart and motivates us all to follow and seek God each day.  The experience makes each of us want to  be more involved, and to see the hand of God working through Christians who want to do God’s will.”
