A Roof, a Meal, and Lasting Relationships: Wilson Lumber Company's Impact in Potrerillo
At our core, our missions program believes in the power of relationships to truly understand and meet the needs of our sponsored villages. While providing essential meals is a cornerstone of our efforts, it's the deeper connections that unveil the true stories of those we serve.
This truth was beautifully demonstrated during a Wilson Lumber Company mission trip to Potrerillo, a village nestled between steep hills. The team was distributing meals at the local schoolyard when they met Petronila, an elderly woman. As Petronila was leaving, she stumbled and fell. Without hesitation, Jake and the missionaries rushed to her side, helping her navigate the tricky terrain back to her home on the hillside.
What they discovered there was heartbreaking: Petronila's roof was in desperate need of repair, and she and her daughter, Estela, were struggling to find enough food. The team immediately sprang into action, initiating a home repair project to protect their home from the elements. Simultaneously, Petronila and Estela were added to our ongoing feeding program, ensuring they would no longer face hunger.
The bond forged that day has only grown stronger. The Wilson team, alongside our in-country AMF team, continues to nurture the relationship with Petronila and Estela. Regular check-ins, consistent food assistance, and support with medical needs have transformed their lives. Petronila and Estela's story is a powerful testament to how our relationship-focused ministry empowers our partners to foster long-term, ongoing support. It’s a vivid demonstration to the Mayan people of the continuous love of Jesus, made real through sustained care and genuine connections.
